Rock and Roll Suicide

Adam Honig and Celia Honig

For good reason, Mom has been on my mind quite a bit lately.

The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust which I would guess was probably Mom’s favorite album by her favorite artist. I think we had a cassette tape of Ziggy Stardust playing in her orange VW convertible almost everytime we were in the car.

Listening to the newly remastered copy, I was blown away. You could clearly hear the various instruments, and even most of the lyrics that Bowie was singing. I guess that old cassette technology wasn’t so good.

I highly recommend a listen to the album again. For your listening pleasure, I’ve uploaded a copy onto my server here. So many great songs, but more importantly an album that hangs together long after its day.

One of my favorite lines from the album is from Hang On To Yourself:

We can’t dance, we don’t talk much, we just ball and play
But then we move like tigers on vaseline

But the verse that always gets me choked up is from Five Years:

And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, youre beautiful, I want you to walk
