From Heartbreaker to Huffer to Gilt Complex

Izzy's Hard Rocking Mix

About a month ago, I posted a mix that I made for my new daughter and made the comment that “when I started looking for songs to put on the mix, I was amazed by what a low % of my favorite tracks were performed by women”.

Perhaps it was the lack of sleep or something, but turns out I over looked a whole bunch of female artists. And then a whole bunch of my friends suggested new artists to consider and reminded me of others.

So many great songs with female singers that I had to create three separate mixes. I just published one, “Izzy’s Hard Rocking Girl Mix” that captures the edgiest, guitar oriented rock ranging from Joan Jett to Siouxsie And The Banshees to Sons and Daughters.

Here’s the track list (with year released in parenthesis):

Search And Destroy by Peaches (2009)
Stillness Is The Move by Dirty Projectors (2009)
Gilt Complex by Sons and Daughters (2008)
Runaway by Ladytron (2008)
Yes, I’m A Witch by Yoko Ono (2007)
Don’t Give Up by Noisettes (2007)
Giddy Statospheres by The Long Blondes (2007)
Rollercoaster by Sleater-Kinney (2005)
June Gloom by The Like (2005)
Steve McQueen by Sheryl Crow (2002)
Huffer by The Breeders (2002)
Celebrity Skin by Hole (1999)
I Think I’m Paranoid by Garbage (1998)
Zombie by The Cranberries (1994)
Cities In Dust by Siouxsie And The Banshees (1986)
Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks (1981)
I Love Rock N’ Roll by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (1981)
Bad Reputation by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (1981)
Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar (1979)
Barracuda by Heart (1977)
Magic Man by Heart (1976)

Next mix will be a pop/indie combination.
